Tiger Parenting

Tiger parenting is a term which refers to a strict mother who pushes her children to be successful academically by attaining high levels of scholastic and academic achievement. According to Chua (2011) from Chinese, "Tiger mothers are mothers of Chinese who are highly controlling and authoritarian, denying their children free time, play dates, and extracurrilar activities in order to drive them to high levels of success at any cost, in sharp contrast to the softer and more forgiving Western parenting style. Kim, et al., in the Asian American Journal of Psychology (2013) demonstrate that tiger parenting is not a common parenting profile in a sample of 444 Chinese American Families.

Using violence method is regarded as a great way to make her children be a successful person. In addition, the mother sometimes also uses the harsh system to her children and sheasks themto do whatever she wants. Usually, tiger mom teaches and educates her children hardly starting from they are still kids untill they become an adult. They think that this is a best way to educate the children. However, we can see the factthat tiger parenting will give many bad effects to the children and it will not work as we think such as: effect to the children's behavior and their psychological health.

Firstly, tiger parenting will affect to the children's behavior. Why is that? The children will do a thing such as stimulus. It can be defined that the children always repeat the same thing based on what they hear and what they see. It means that they will do similar to what their environment does to them. When the tiger mom always shows the violence and also pushes her children to do whatever she wants harshly, they will automatically follow their mom behavior such as the violence. It means that the children will do the similar behaviorjust like what their mom does to them. If the mom teaches the children with the violence, they will also do that to the others, sometime to their peers, brother and sister, or even their mom. The function of the mother is to educate and teach the children. Thus, being a mother has to be patient and do not be easy to get angry.

Secondly, not only does tiger parenting affectto the behavior of children but alsotiger parenting affects to their psychological health. They will always think if their mom is a bad-tempered and a tiger person; as a result, they will be so afraid and nervous to their mom. they do not want to speak a lot with their mom and they just talk if it is necessary. If they have a problem, they will not tell their mom and they will always try and push to solve itthemselves. At the end, it pushes them down and stresses them out, so their psychological health will be disturbed.

The next, we can see another fact of the children educated by tiger mom. American Psycholoical Association (2013) stated, "Tiger parenting is far from the ideal way of parenting".

In conclusion, there can be no doubt that tiger mom does not solve the problem, but it just appears the other problems. As a mom, we have to realize that being a tiger mom is not a solution of educating our children. On the contrary, teaching them smoothly will build a good communication between mom and children. A mom can be a friend to her children. If a mom educates and teaches them smoothly, they will not be afraid and nervous to their mom. Hence, they will be opened to their mom. Therefore, the cases above shows that it is better to avoid using tiger parenting system in teaching the children.
